Driving slow on sunday morning...

GOOD MORNING!

No tuition today, Mr. Chan cancelled it a few days back. My original intent was to sleep really really long, but then I decided to wake up and BLOG. Hah.

So yes I know, I haven't blogged in awhile. Damn is it hard to keep consistent. This post WILL be long.

Justin has been posting a lot of those 'So-tell-me-more-about-yourself' chain mails of sorts on his blog. Lol, I'll do one of those later on.

Well, the week hasn't been that bad. I really think Mr. Kang is a hilarious guy.

He doesn't really have much of a 'sense of humour' if you look at it, but he says some stuff in such a child-like and innocent manner, it's funny.

So on thursday we were going through some E Maths paper, and afterwards Mr Kang decided to talk to us about integers.

So he told us about integers and that they were represented by a Z with a line parallel to the /.

And then he went on to tell us the most random reason why:

"It's like Zorro. You know, Zorro has two swords. -makes funny gesture with hands-"

Like LOLWTF, he's damn cute.

Then he went on to tell us the REAL reason why integers were represented by Z. Supposedly it is because it was discovered by a German named Zahren. So I asked:

"What about Zorro then?"

"Erm, I'm not too sure myself, but I think it is because he wasn't born then."

AHHAHAHAH.

Anyway, just in case you're wondering, Mr Kang is misinformed. There's no such German as Zahren, so he got it 3/5 correct. Integers are represented by a Z, which stands for ZAHLEN, which is German for "numbers".

So then the next day, he was telling us about percentage increase. He told us that some companies and people sell stuff at 300% the cost price. Ridiculous eh? Although I suspect that's how much a meal at Mac costs.

I was pretty skeptical so I said:

"300% the cost price? But who is willing to buy?"

And he gave us the example of fake jewels and all.

Okay I know right now you must be thinking I have a REALLY odd sense of humour. But you have to see the WAY he said it. It's all to do with his expressions and the way he punctuates that makes it funny.

"So what about Zorro's two swords then? Anybody willing to purchase them for 300% the cost price?" I said.

He looked at me and said,

"Well no."

"...But I heard you can get a replica of King Arthur's sword Excalibur on the Internet for $200."

"It's like the real thing, except a replica."

"Then you and go around and bluff people that you used it to kill DRAGONS. -smiles-"

LOLOL.

Man, I love his lessons.

Speaking about selling stuff overpriced, I've been trying to find an article on Starbucks. Supposedly the article was about SOMETHING about Starbucks policy. I'm not too sure if anybody can help me out, but it's about the policy that if you ask the barista to make a better cup of coffee, he WILL make a better cup of coffee for you.

Don't make sense?

Well that's the reason I want to re-read it too. lol.

Kudos to anybody who can relink me to the article. And did you know, Starbucks earns a lot just HEATING milk.

I got back in touch with Tiffany yesterday. It's amazing how everybody in Singapore seems to somehow be related to one another.

It's like a little Friendster network going on.

For example, when my sister was in Victoria Junior College, she knew a friend, who happened to me my NCC (Land) Cadet Lieutenant.

And then she knew someone else, who was my primary school friend's brother. Double that, cause she knew ANOTHER friend who was my friend's brother.

So apparently Matthew and Stephen actually know Tiffany. They go to the same church.

Haha, but it was really great getting to talk to her again. I remember in primary school we didn't talk much, and no I so want to get back with everybody I have lost contact with.

Tiffany actually has an interest in dolls and art. Haha, I thought it was really neat. Most girls I know don't really have an interest in dolls?

Of course, there's CK who draws amazingly well.

But then dolls? Haha, not many.

Her doll is so expensive. It costs like $300?

My bass is worth two of her dolls then. HAHA.

Anyway, most of the time we kinda linked back to the education system and that it sucks. I have to agree. I feel the education system makes us stupid in some ways.

I agree with Tiffany when she said:

"We have the brightest kids, but not for the working population."

You have to admit that is true. Singapore wants to promote creativity and talent, but IMO the education system kills it. And no, I don't think IPW helps promote much creativity.

I guess the main reason why is because the education system is too rigid.

Looking ahead, Singapore is entering a new phase. Maybe things might change in the next 5 years? We'll see.

Hahaha, but then I'll get to vote. COOL.

And Tiffany says she wants to go to either Temasek Poly or NAFA. I was quite enthralled when I heard that.

Maybe it is because everybody in TK I know (with a couple of exceptions like Justin) are either done with their DSA admissions, or just really want to go to some JC. So perhaps it is refreshing to hear someone say that they want to go somewhere else.

And coming from someone from TKGS? Hah, when I first entered TK, all the girls I knew from Tao Nan wanted to go TKGS cause it was so prestigious.

Then their standard dropped? It's so sad really. And Michelle told me that it's because of their former principal, who is the current principal of TJC.

ZOMG LA. That means TJC's standard is going to drop even further.

Crap, I'm steering clear of TJC given the choice. VJC or MJC then.

And if you're wondering why I'm so 'traditional', it's not because I want to. But my dad won't allow me to go to a Poly or anywhere else.

"Old minset," Tiffany said.

Well, I'm really glad to know that SOME Singaporean parents are a bit more open minded now. When I have kids I really hope the education system changes.

And when I have kids I want to teach them how to appreciate music as well. HAH, okay fine it's so long from now. But hey, no harm looking forward eh?

Haha, I sent Tiffany my recordings of me playing bass as well. Lol, I feel like such a show-off sometimes.

She's the person who said it is 'funky'. HAHA I'm like so overjoyed. Finally someone who KNOWS what makes something funky.

And she really likes the Red Hot Chili Peppers too. WOW. It's like one of my favourite bands.

Haha, I guess we somehow connect a lot. It's great.

Okay okay, so here's the thing Justin wants me to do:
